events will be held to attract attention and visitors to the museum
or serve as benefits, including:
- Crafts
of the 18th Century: Soap and candle making, whittling, needlecrafts,
music, games, storytelling and activities from life in the 18th century.
Shape Note Singing : Join singers for a day of music that might have
been sung at Robert Preston House in the 18th century.
Heirloom Garden Workshop & Seed Sale: Plan your own home heirloom
garden and buy heirloom seeds.
18th Century Market Faire. Period food, beverages and wares available
for purchase. Music & dancing.
Children's Crafts & Games: Bring your kids and learn how to make
corn husk dolls and 'marbles.' Learn how to play marbles and other
games like Nine Man Morris, Tip Cat, and Fox & Geese.
Herbal Remedies Workshop: Learn the difference between decoctions,
infusions, plaisters and poultices, and learn how these remedies were
used to treat the maladies of the 18th century
- Harvest
Fest: Join the Robert Preston family and their friends as they prepare
to celebrate the harvest. Sample cider, apple butter and pumpkin pie.
Enjoy storytelling, music and other activities.
- Holiday
Greenery Sale & Colonial Decorating Workshop. Make your own decorations
in colonial style to use in your own home, or buy them ready-made.
- Christmas
at Walnut Grove: Join the Robert Preston family as they celebrate
Christmas in the 18th century. Share hot cider, sugar cakes, Christmas
carols and a puppet theater as musicians play music of the era.
